The Research Scientist will provide guidance and consultation related to a variety of research functions through the development of MRI experimental strategies. The role will facilitate research by participating in the design and implementation and providing related guidance on equipment, as well as best approaches for project development, implementation, and evaluation. The role will be expected to manage the smooth operation of the Pl's laboratory in all respects as well as the Pl's interaction with the CFMM core, fostering research collaborations and providing guidance to stakeholders to solve research problems or issues that arise. The role will set research goals and objectives, carry out and oversee original and independent research, develop new research initiatives, prepare grant applications, and play a lead role in training and fostering relationships with collaborators, staff, graduate students, undergraduate students and post-doctoral fellows. The Research Scientist will also select and develop methods for data collection, publish and present findings, and develop new and innovative research approaches to achieve desired research outcomes.
PhD in Physics, Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering or relevant discipline
- 3 years' experience (post PhD) in an academic leadership setting (such as a post-doctoral fellow, research associate, junior faculty position) with demonstrated experience in MRI methods as well as demonstrated training, problem solving and leadership experience
- 2 years' postdoctoral experience including developing independent scientific programs and preparing scientific documents
- 1 year student supervisory and mentoring experience
- Strong publication record including first and last author publications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Self-driven, independent thinker who is highly motivated and possesses an intrinsic passion for quality work outcomes and strong productivity with demonstrated project management methodologies
- Ability to perform both standard and complex laboratory procedures with accuracy, precision and reliability
- Professional and effective interpersonal skills to interact with trainees and other university personnel on a daily basis to maximize the research productivity of the lab personnel and core facility
- Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations
- Extensive knowledge of MRI
- Demonstrated knowledge of ethics review board procedures as applicable to human and animal research
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to multi-task with targeted goals
- Ability to manage activities on a personal level and for others in an effective manner
- Ability to research and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives and support collaborative projects
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to coach lab members and provide mentorship, assisting with solving complex problems
- Strong record of teamwork with the motivation and ability to work independently with no supervision
- Advanced computer skills used to produce and analyze research outcomes (such as Matlab, C or C++, Pulse-programming languages such as IDEA).
