Summary

Vancouver Island University.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mass Spectrometry

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mass Spectrometry. This is a two-year position based in our Chemistry Department.

About the Department:

The Department of Chemistry at VIU is located on the beautiful west coast of British Columbia and houses a world class mass spectrometry facility with state-of-the-art orbitrap, triple quadrupole, and ion trap instruments. Our research strengths are in environmental, clinical, and bioanalytical mass spectrometry, with a strong emphasis on novel direct mass spectrometry approaches that minimize sample preparation and pretreatment. Located on central Vancouver Island, VIU is surrounded by world class nature perfect for many outdoor activities including hiking, surfing, kayaking, skiing, and mountain biking.

Project Description:

There is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral fellow to participate in a multi-institutional project utilizing cutting-edge mass spectrometry imaging technology to explore molecular mechanisms of tumor driven immunosuppression in various types of solid cancers. The primary focus of this role is to develop and apply nanospray desorption electrospray ionization (nano-DESI) methods to map metabolites in heterogeneous tumors. Funded through a multi-institutional project grant, work will be in collaboration with leading scientists at BC Cancer, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Victoria. Additionally, there are ample opportunities in this role for interlaboratory exchanges in other mass spectrometry and cancer immunometabolism research programs, and for professional growth and development through informal and formal project team initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biology or equivalent

Experience with mass spectrometry

Experience with electrospray ionization
