Summary

As the visionary leader of the Foundation, the President and Chief Executive Officer is responsible for developing and directing strategic and innovative programs which promote research excellence and generate benefits for the health and health care of British Columbians. Promoting collaboration among organizations and across multiple jurisdictions, the incumbent works with government, institutions and researchers to advance health research and address health and health system priorities.

The ideal candidate is a highly successful senior executive with proven ability as an effective administrator and spokesperson and a record of achievement in health research or related areas. He/she is an instinctive leader who exudes optimism and can inspire an organization to achieve its goals. In addition she/he has exceptional communication and stakeholder facilitation skills, decision?making abilities, and knowledge of research?funding mechanisms.

The Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (http://www.msfhr.org/), funded by the government of British Columbia, is the province’s health research agency. The Foundation makes investments in BC’s health research enterprise, generating outcomes which contribute to improved health for British Columbians and a  sustainable, high quality health care system. The MSFHR is dedicated to the memory of Nobel laureate and pre?eminent BC scientist, Dr. Michael Smith.
