Chief Executive Officer - Research Nova Scotia (RNS)
The Province of Nova Scotia has adopted an innovation agenda to strategically drive inclusive economic growth across the province. On December 4, 2018, the Research Nova Scotia Corporation Act was proclaimed creating Research Nova Scotia. Research Nova Scotia, chaired by a board with representatives from post-secondary institutions, the private sector and government, will contribute to Nova Scotia’s innovation agenda through its leadership in supporting, organizing and co-ordinating the funding of research. This exciting new entity will work to create an effective organization to identify and advance Nova Scotia’s research priorities, facilitate the strategic allocation of research funding to support provincial priorities and to optimize provincial support of Nova Scotia based proposals in national research funding competitions. Research Nova Scotia will encourage, plan and make strategic investments in research and be accountable for oversight of the Research Opportunities Fund which will enable the expansion of research activity and collaboration as part of enhancing inclusive economic growth.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer is the chief spokesperson for the Corporation and is accountable to the Board for the operation of the organization, stewardship of funds and the achievement of the strategic and legislated objectives of Research Nova Scotia. As CEO, you will be a champion for research in Nova Scotia, fostering a culture and a network of working relationships with Board members, researchers, funders, communities, and other stakeholders in the private, public and post-secondary sectors that support innovation, partnership and the expansion of research activity across Nova Scotia. You will work with the Board to identify research priorities that drive inclusive economic growth and enhanced social well-being in Nova Scotia through the development, creation, generation and application of research results. You will lead the creation of a new Research Opportunities Fund that will support partnerships and the leveraging of funded, high quality research initiatives through the provision of further financial contributions.
As the ideal candidate, you are an experienced and passionate leader with demonstrated success in working with researchers, system leaders, the scientific community, funding organizations, private sector partners, post-secondary institutions, government and other key stakeholders across the Canadian research landscape. You possess a graduate level education and have experience in attracting and/or managing funding from sources that support and enable capacity building, research and innovation. You naturally see opportunities and are skilled in creating partnerships and collaborative initiatives. You are able to inspire, engage and motivate others and are able to develop strategic plans, to envision possibilities and to mobilize support and action. You have proven your ability to build effective working relationships with a Board of Directors and key internal and external stakeholders and are comfortable with being a leader and with being accountable in complex governance structures.
